The Comedic duo return for the eight season of their long running show, Penn & Teller: Bullshit!.
Episode: "Cheerleaders" (Season 8, Episode 1).
Rating: 3½/4 stars.
Penn and Teller are not only Magic geniuses, but they have a sense of logic that all of us should have inside us. Whenever they do an episode of their show Bullshit! I question how I didnt think of the points they brought up before then. They are Libertarians with a skeptic attiude toward the world and everything around them. This episode concerns Cheerleaders and how the so called "Sport" causes more injuries than Baseball, Football, Volleyball, Ice Skating, and Ice Hockey shockingly. They explain their idea of a sport involves people getting hurt and if many people get hurt doing Cheerleading it should be considered a sport. Of course no episode of Bullshit! is complete without interviews with people for or against the act. Penn & Teller stand behind the fact of making Cheerleading a sport though they talk to numerous people who have had different opinions on it. We even see a girl who was left laying on the floor in the locker room of her school with a broken neck and near death. To this date she is paralyzed and needs assistance breathing with the help of a ventilator. Its a heartwrenching story.
I also must bring up the whole episode is one big stab to the Varsity industry since P&T make the claim that Varsity owns sixty-six National Cheer Competitions and state that Varsity would lose millions of dollars if the state owned one Cheer competition. I understand some topics on P&T are way over my head, though I try my best to explain these the best I can, and want to say that for Season 8 I will be doing short reviews of every episode every Thursday about an hour or two after the 9:00 PM premiere. I support P&T on almost every topic and want to give my personal feel if the episode did justice or not. I must disagree here, I do not think Cheerleading is a sport. I find it to be an activity/event done before a major sporting event. Cheerleading is not a sport in my world. The only three sports are Baseball, Football, and Basketball. Everything else is a combination sport or has a quality that doesn't make it a sport. I'm a Carlin guy. Though the "Cheerleaders" episode is favorable and a fine start to what looks to be a great season for P&T. Episodes of Fast Food, Criminal Justice, Easy Money, Vaccinations, Area 51, Self Esteem, and Martial Arts are on the way in the venturous journey through the Bullshit the world holds.
Starring: Penn Jillette and "Raymond Joesph" Teller. Directed by: Star Price.
