Hawk - yes. Just yes.
Steve - you can't really give the artist a letter grade because, overall, in only 2-4 years apiece on the music scene that each artist has had, they've both gone through several phases already. Lady Gaga from being pretty damn good to ASTRONOMICAL to okay to mediocre (for her, Born This Way represents a full-on identity crisis if we're meant to believe The Fame and Monster were ever the real her). Ke$ha started as a kind of rip-off artist with a bad gimmick to a reliable dance-pop artist with an actual message (to combat Lady Gaga's dozen or so messages): "do any crazy thing you want to do." Her music has stayed in one mode but that mode has become refined over the course of her EP follow-ups to Animal and she's turned into an actual machine. Which in the club music universe can only be a good thing. Currently, Lady Gaga has lost her way and is trying too hard. Ke$ha is trying only as hard she needs to. Which, of course, between the two of them, make them artists to seriously contend with. They're both making outstanding dance music either way.

See, I was only big on dancing when I was really young (around six - nine, weren't we all?) and I listened to a lot of rock n roll country music (like Hell Yeah by Montgomery Gentry). Plus, you know a lot more about music then I do. I'm just grading the artists on how I feel about them now.

Well, I don't dance either anymore. I was actually just talking about the feel of the music. Dance music is, yeah, kind of the new wave reincarnation of disco. You know- where Blondie goes from "One Way or Another" to "Heart of Glass" or Madonna goes from a rock band to being the queen of getting everyone on the dancefloor.
Oh, wait- did you know that Madonna used to be in a band (she was the drummer, then she sang back-up vocals)? Yeah, in fact- this is one of the first demo songs recorded when she was trying to get a record deal:
Oh yeah, that's THE Madonna alright. Before she did this:
And got herself that record deal that turned her into THE biggest name in pop music history.

I remember hearing about her in a band. I never heard any songs from her though.

Really, I don't mind Bieber. I understand his popularity. He's safe and marketable. Lady Gaga makes decent pop tunes. Really, there's only one musical act out there that I despise.
The Black Eyed Peas.
I feel like I get stupider listening to them. They sample songs that already sample songs. They use names like "will.i.am" and "apl.de.ap" and expect me to keep a straight face at the very sight of them. Their popularity is dangerous. Their popularity is disturbing. Their music is so overproduced I struggle to see how Taboo is different than any other person on the planet. I get the feeling they think they're really clever. Hint: they're not.
