Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie (2003).
From left: Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, Jeff Foxworthy, and Ron White in Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie.
Rating: ★★★
You didn't bring boring witcha ditcha? Nope. Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie is a fun filled comedy special by the four boys who we've grown to love. Bill Engvall, Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy, and Larry the Cable Guy all team up and present their iconic jokes to an energized crowd at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. Stereotypical humor at its finest.
Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy get the crowd warmed up for Bill Engvall and Jeff Foxworthy. White and Cable Guy's performance are both well done, but Engvall and Foxworthy were the ones everyone (and myself) wanted to see the most. Eventually, all four of the guys will go up on the stage all at once to reminisce and share stories to one another. It's a fun experience, but it does get a little lengthy when the boys start laughing at their own jokes.
Ron White has always been my least favorite of the comedies guys, even though he is funny with his Scotch and cigar as his two props sometimes.
Aorta see more of these Blue Collar films because even though I can't relate to most of the humor, I know friends that can. If I had to pick one character in this whole film that was a close to me I'd probably pick Bill Engvall. Engvall's style and way of life is almost the same as mine. Everyday man trying to make a living. Guess that's why it's called "Blue Collar."
Every so often, after a good chunk of comedy, the film will present you with a skit with the four boys going out in "public." I put public in quotes because it's clearly a scripted event when we see Heidi Klum working at Victoria's Secret. I think it would've been much funnier to see the four boys actually go out in public and work their Blue Collar magic on an unexpecting group of people similar to Jackass.
The humor in Blue Collar Comedy Tour is funny because you either know people who are like that, you are the person like that, or you know that some people are like that. The humor is more family and social problems rather than sex jokes. Of course the toilet humor is used, but whats a special without a joke about flatulence?
One film I'd love to see get made is a movie with all four of the boys (not as their Blue Collar Comedy Tour characters) but as regular Joes in a buddy comedy getting into mischief. We were halfway there we were on the right track with Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, we got closer with Delta Farce, and we derailed a bit with Blue Collar TV.
Hopefully director C.B. Harding, whom also directed Delta Farce will take into consideration that idea and make that wish a reality. I think it's time for a full length movie with the boys not as themselves. If that makes any sense.
Starring: Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White. Directed by: C.B. Harding.
Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again (2004).
Rating: ★★½
Maybe it's the fact it's direct to Dvd, maybe it's the fact this one doesn't have the skits, but for whatever reason Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again is not as funny as the original film. It isn't loathsome, but then again, it isn't gut busting funny. The first one wasn't. But I laughed frequently. At least once every five minutes. Now it's down to a chuckle and a smile.
This time Engvall and White are warming the crowd up before Foxworthy and Larry. Engvall is funny and truthful, White is the same, not hilarious but gets a good smile now and then, Foxworthy is the highlight, and Larry is himself. At the end of the film they all get together on stage, like the previous film. This time they all perform a "song" called I Believe, that's Yo Believo for you Spanish folk.
For some reason, I didn't laugh as much as I wanted to. I still believe Ron White isn't as funny as some say. Maybe it's personal preference, but he is not too great. Sure I do laugh a couple of times but he pales in comparison to people like Engvall and Foxworthy. Maybe it's because Engvall and Foxworthy make more of an effort to go into realistic situations where Ron White rambles on some bar he went to. Or maybe it's all an act.
Ron White also is the one member of The Blue Collar Comedy gang that didn't return to Blue Collar TV and doesn't accompany Engvall, Foxworthy, and Larry on their current tours. Why I don't know. But the group isn't missing much.
Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again packs in enough cute moments for a minor recommendation. But it still doesn't live up to what I had hoped. I have high hopes for One for the Road, the final comedy special by The Blue Collar gang because it's their last special under that name. Plus I've seen Bill Engvall's scene on there and it gets me excited to see what comes out of it. Hopefully it's a tiny bit more enjoyable than this.

Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road (2006).
Rating: ★★★½
Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road is a solid closure and a great fix to the bland and dry addition of Rides Again. The performs tackle funnier topics and the end scene where all of them are on stage are the strongest in the trilogy. This is the best of all of the films.
It's hard to say what went wrong in the second part. I didn't hate it. But something wasn't on par with the original. When critiquing a comedy special, it's strictly what topics you yourself funny. What you find funny isn't what others do making it hard to efficiently review a special. One for the Road shows the guys at their funniest and that is what it's all about.
We start out with Bill Engvall, surprisingly, since he is usually saved for second to last or last in the performances. He is the funniest of everyone talking about impressing fifth grade girls and a stressful trip to the massage parlor. Ron White starts talking about Texas Hold 'Em and the state of awareness scale, and this time, he is actually pretty funny.
Usually I grin when Ron White is on stage, but I actually found him very funny during this special. More points. Jeff and Larry close the show with Jeff and Bill being the major highlights of the film. Then, at the very end, as a Blue Collar tradition, they all come out on stage and do something with a theme. This time; telling their favorite jokes and looking at photos they are "not proud of." Just wonderful humor.
This is the final special from Engvall, White, Foxworthy, and The Cable Guy. There is another one called Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Next Generation. But from what I hear it's just four other Blue Collar impersonators doing their own shtick using the four guys' humor. I think I'll stop here. One for the Road stands out in the trilogy for discussing the funniest topics and having memorable lines dropped one after another.
Just to let you know, if you ask if this is a review of Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road, I'll say "Nope, it's a review of the Dvd cover." Heeeeeeere's your sign!
