The movie is about 2 gay club kids who murdered a friend of theirs. That's what the scene was like in the 80's and early 90's. A lot of dressing up in drag and wearing feathery costumes. (ON THE LEFT in that picture, by the way Steve, is Seth Green, from of course, the Austin Powers movies) If anyone liked Party Monster- you should check out Vegas in Space. Almost every single person in the film is a gay man in drag. Plus- it represents Club Dress-Up culture, was filmed in the 1980's, and several of the cast members died. So- you get a lot of the same themes from Party Monster, only for real by the real people who lived through that time period in American culture. I have watched a number of drag movies like Divine movies. I think I have seen Vegas in Space.

Well- Divine in film is all John Waters' creation. He had a singing career, was on TV, did interviews, music videos, records, and became a mini-pop culture icon. But on film, he really only worked with John Waters. So his legacy is all John Waters' first. I like his movies because they're vicious satires more than anything else. When you want to see something get torn down or ripped a new one (like: the upper class, fascism / tyranny, family values, the American legal system). Divine didn't care about any of that. John Waters once said about Divine- he never wanted to watch anything that didn't have rich people in it. Which of course means Divine would have hated Roseanne. Divine lived: Escapism. John Waters was the opposite. He was very confrontational.
By now- I think most drag movies (or TV shows) are about straight people crossdressing to fool girls. White Chicks, The Hot Chick, Bosom Buddies, loads of other examples.
