Michael Jackson and various dancers rehearse for Jackson's final tour in "This Is It."
Rating 4/4 stars.
Michael Jackson promised his fans a concert in London entitled "This Is It." He would have kept his promise, we all knew he wouldn't have broke if he didn't die on June 25th 2009 (my birthday.) This heartwarming, extraordinary documentary showing how Jackson prepared for his tours. Through sweat, tears, and very mild frustration, dancing his heart out and completely giving us all. Not just a half put together movie, not a grieving documentary. A truly amazing movie showing us everything Jackson would have wanted us to see.
The rehearsals seen in this film were from April - June 2009. The film has crystal clear picture and sound. As well as being beautifully shot.
Michael Jackson completely ignores all the media's rumors and false accusations he is being accused of and like I said gives it his all. What keeps him going people wonder? The fans of course. Without the fans, Jackson would not have gotten anywhere and most definitely wouldn't be called "King of Pop."
Jackson performs various songs throughout the movie. Along with some of the most well designed and most brilliant dancing I have ever seen. Songs and dances to Beat It, Bad, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Black or White, This Is It, They Don't Care About Us, and various other hits make up "This Is It." Plus a 3D set up of Thriller, obviously one of Jackson's biggest hits.
Jackson is one of the few who always spoke softly. Never raising his voice, stressing out, or blaming little mistakes on his co-workers/helpers when one big mistake happened. He always remained calm and did his very best work.
The ending of the movie really puts you down because you know all of MJ's choreographers, dancers, and all the special effect designers were put out of a job and were in shock and dismay on June 25th. After the hard work spent on the set designs, the commitment to finding the dancers and the right people for the job, and lets not forget the countless hours spent working on the rehearsals for each song.
Michael Jackson is a truly amazing singer, the shocking thing is I didn't know it till this movie. A legend, an amazing singer, and a great father to his kids. He may have been a little weird or somewhat of a "freak" (I can relate). But he formed the Pop genre and completely transformed the music industry all by saying "Beat It", "Bad", to notice the "Man in the Mirror", or saying there's no difference between "Black or White", and by wrapping up his effervescent life by saying "This Is It."
Starring: Michael Jackson. Directed by: Kenny Ortega.
