HA! I love the idea that horror has become millennialized so badly that we take it as a given that it's not for smart people anymore. It sure used to be. Meanwhile, the millennium has just had all its cultural corners tainted by politics. I have an incredibly hard time remember a period where anything felt enjoyable for an extended period of time. Which, say what one will about the 90's, it was a dynamic time for music, for young people to be socially progressive without shame, and the culture just flat-out reflected that. So many boneheads can't help but mischaracterize the 90's. We were... so, so very ignorant about the Clinton administration's misdeeds. It was a better time for almost everyone.
(Except queer people. Those with the best of advantages still had to do a lot of ducking and dodging. We really have come a long way since.) (Wish I could say the same for race activism and feminism.)
