I'll rent too. I need to play it, but I also need to spend my money on good things. The impact of its release is tempered greatly by the fact that the people releasing it now (Gearbox, makers of Borderlands) aren't the same people who spent 12 years making it (3D Realms, makers of Duke 3D and currently nonexistent). Gearbox picked it up in 09 I think. It doesn't feel the same. 3D Realms was having trouble and they went down under. They had ten years to perfect it, Gearbox worked on it for two. Doesn't hold up if you ask me. My issue is that 3D Realms didn't finish the job they started. There was a fantastic analogy made when the announcement that Gearbox was taking over: it's like opening a pickle jar. You spend 10 minutes trying to open a pickle jar, and someone else comes along and does it in one go. It just doesn't feel the same. Jeff over at GB gave the game 2/5. Can't wait to hear about it on tonight's Bombcast. Here's a Quick Look in case you're interested: www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-duke-nukem-forever/17-4385/

Well, I've been playing the hell out of it. I went from 10:10am to 2:15pm straight gaming. Honestly, I kind of like it. It's a little choppy and sometimes it's a little buggy (when turning and running), but the action is good and the nostalgia is there. Overall, it's a two and a half out of four so far.

It's a little choppy and sometimes it's a little buggy (when turning and running), but the action is good and the nostalgia is there. Overall, it's a two and a half out of four so far. I haven't even played it and I'm already sick of it. Ugly graphics, bad lighting, unfunny, outdated main character, repetitive, weapon limitations, insufferable load times, archaic design, poor pacing, and a bunch of old references to things you'd much rather be spending your time with. This isn't new. Duke Nukem has always been super lame and kinda unfunny. At the time, it was a more technically impressive Doom with some decent personality. That was over 10 years ago, and they're still trying to get away with the same thing they did in 1996. "BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS OF STEEL" is the best thing to come out of Duke Nukem as far as I'm concerned.
