Who is your favorite rapper, and what is your favorite rap group?
My favorite rapper is 2Pac. Favorite rap group is the Wu Tang Clan. Eminem and NWA are close seconds for both categories respectively.
What about you?

My favorite rap group is probably NWA. I have a couple of their CDs. Very down to Earth, no bullshit group of guys.
As for rap, believe it or not, I idolized it in seventh grade. Then I grew up, changed my ways, and went back to my favorite genres; Country and Rock.

Funny you should make this post only now- I'm only a couple of days away from starting my own tribute thread about rap. A certain kind (the only one I think I know pretty well). As for my personal favorite rapper/group... right now, there's no question it's Fiend. I don't think he's done anything since 2004, but put him on any track and it immediately becomes better. "Break Something" (3:40) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=4niAWWGIhSsAnother side of him (but I like both the smooth side and rage side): "Absolutely" (3:0?) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jt7Cp77fsEA favorite from the 90's is Foxy Brown- probably my #1 female rapper. She has 2 different styles- her Ill Na Na and Chyna Doll. She used to be very deep-throated on the first album and on guest spots for Jay-Z and Mia-X. But on C.D., she lightened up and sounded very valley-girlish. I like both, but no matter how like Lil' Kim she may have sounded- the first style is my favorite. "I'll Be" (3:??) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmt8wSKxc1I"No One's" (3:??) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACPV5hCtoVsAlso really like Mystikal. Smart lyricist, crazy flow, ultra-distinctive voice. Nobody can match that. Closest is ODB and Busta Rhymes. Both of whom typically have louder bass on their tracks. Both of which I can appreciate. But Mystikal kind of toasts that on a track like this: "Not That Nigga" (5:58) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es5Guj4iy24For the sake of personality, I also really E-40. No way to describe a guy like this. Here's a good example of what he does that no one else can: "Growing Up" (3:58) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OqHERs5aws"Keep Pimpin'" (4:20 - DON'T laugh! ) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1duDFhWdwgALMOST forgot Da Brat. God I love her. My favorite of her tracks: "Make It Happen" (3:31) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut6rtq94XEU

D'oh! How could I forget OutKast! I like them better than Tupac and the Wu Tang easily. Stankonia is probably my favorite rap album of all time.
Any other rap duos you guys want to mention?

I still do not like Eminem. His songs are mostly misogynist and vulgar. I don't mind vulgarity, but not when it consumes most of the song.

I love his songs because, a lot like Tupac, they are written with meaning. With a message. Just look at the lyrics to any of his songs and your bound to see something. Also, complaining about vulgarity in rap music is like complaining about sand at the beach.

Eminem is another one of those straight white twits who mouths off whenever any little thing doesn't go his way. Sure, sometimes he accidentally bumps into something smart / good. "Guilty Conscience," for example. And even there, he's of course playing the immature dumbass hothead like thats who he is. That doesn't make him a good actor in my eyes, so much as too good at playing the role. His career may be unique, but it's still a joke. He very rarely played the role of the Marilyn Manson of hip-hop, so even he didn't recognize his full potential. He spent more time trying to do rap-battle-revenges on any celebrity who didn't kiss his ass than he did trying to use his popularity to say anything about the world.
With all that in mind, the only question to ponder is- how funny was he? I think most people thought The Beastie Boys were funnier.
