In honor of the holidays and because of a much-needed winter break, my new movie watching event will commence on Friday December 16, 2011 and conclude January 2, 2012. The event is dubbed "A Yuletide Hall of Films," and will feature not only a few Christmas films, but films of a wide genre. I will also review three of the best shorts ever created, my introduction to them, and provide links to where they can be seen. I plan to shoot for two films a day, but it's likely some days (IE: December 16 and Christmas) will only have one movie watched. I will be getting a whole new supply of Dvds for Christmas and will also shoot a Dvd Update Christmas evening and have it uploaded the same week. Again, I will not be taking any suggestions simply because I have too many things I need to get to. I apologize, and hopefully will be able to accept suggestions sometime in the future. Christmas/winter break is the school break I look forward to the most after summer. I want this to be all to myself. I got all my Christmas shopping done before the month even started, and now, I want it to be dedicated to me, myself, and I.
Here's a schedule of what I watched over the course of the event.
December 16: Roadie (2 stars)
December 17: Elf (3 stars), You've Got Mail (3.5 stars).
December 18: Young Adult (3 stars).
December 19: Tommy Boy (3 stars), Black Sheep (2 stars).
December 20: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (3.5 stars), Falling Down (3.5 stars).
December 21: Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2.5 stars).
December 22: K-PAX (3.5 stars).
December 23: 5 Days of War (1.5 stars), Office Space (3 stars).
December 24: The Artist (4 stars), Black Christmas (3 stars)
December 25: None; took the holiday off.
December 26: Terri (3 stars).
December 27: Apollo 18 (2 stars).
December 28: Caesar and Otto's Summer Camp Massacre (3 stars), A Good Old Fashioned Orgy (3 stars).
December 29: The Blair Witch Project (4 stars), Sticks and Stones: An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legend (2.5 stars).
December 30: Chillerama (3 stars).
December 31: None; was pressed for time during the course of the day.
January 1: Hulk (3 stars).
January 2: The Three Shorts of Christmas (4 stars), Dead Heat (3.5 stars), Private Parts (3.5 stars), A Yuletide Recap (3 stars).
Number of films watched: 24.

I will further dub my "Yuletide Hall of Films" movie watching event to be a successful failure. I'll break apart my statement by saying that the slew of films I watched were mostly well done or very well done, with only one entering "The Avoid Files." That's the part that was successful. I subtly aimed for a goal of thirty films in my head before I started this marathon and failed to obtain my mark by six. That's the part that was a failure. It was an exercise that flowed nicely, but fell short.
This is the most eclectic yet nicely assembled breed of movies I've ever selected. I'm very proud to state that in this event, in less than a month, I elected two films in my "Perfect Four" hall of fame and awarded five films a three and a half star rating. Not to mention, I got to brush up on the history of The Blair Witch Project in the process of writing a review of the fictional documentary Sticks and Stones: An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legend, and watched multiple comedies, such as A Good Old Fashioned Orgy and Tommy Boy, that were very, very impressive.
Not movie speaking, I also saw a fine conclusion to Survivor: South Pacific on Sunday, December 18, enjoyed a simple Christmas with family, wrote a lengthy blog post on the box office, and finally, just got away from school in my two weeks off. Some will ask "is it that big of a deal you didn't reach your goal?" Sort of. It's something I set out to achieve at the very beginning of the event and am a little discouraged I didn't meet it. There were some days, like Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, that were just not possible. I wanted to watch something, bu there was no conceivable way it could be done under the given circumstances. And there were some days where I only watched one film. Looking back I'm kind of ashamed of myself.
But what can be done at this point? It's a new year, new opportunities, and hopefully, new movie watching events. My next one planned is during spring break, but dare I leak the details so soon? It's still in development, but for now, I'll forever see "A Yuletide Hall of Films" as a "quality over quantity" experience.
