The cat's out of the bag. I can't wait much longer. My next movie watching event is still over a month away, but I thought I'd get the movies I plan to watch out now so people can comment, and if they recommend others I can contemplate changing them. I've created several different lists of films I want to watch during my "Cinema's Finest" (formerly titled "The Golden Age of Film)" movie watching event. The main goal is to watch as many critically acclaimed masterpieces as I possibly can. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm sick and tired of people asking if I saw something like The Godfather and then saying "you can't call yourself a critic if you haven't seen that movie, dude!" I'm tired of it. Now, I'm finally going to watch many works of art. The event will begin March 23, 2012 and conclude on April 1, 2012. These are cinema's finest achievements in the art form.
This list is very tentative. Not everything on here will be watched. I'm going for about nine or ten. The final list will be released March 23, 2012.
NOTE:[/u] Some films that aren't on the list, by that I mean, ordinary, regular films that may not fall in the category of "cinema's finest," will also be watched. I will try and not watch too many films that aren't on the list so I can avoid being side-tracked. I will try the best of my abilities to watch everything on this list. If I don't get to everything, the following week (the week of April 2) will be my catch-up week.

I have been planning an event like "Cinema's Finest" for quite sometime, and it wasn't until Spring Break 2012 that I would go through with it. I planned something like this for Winter Break 2011, but my stack of films to watch, as usual, was overwhelming and I had to postpone it. I knew that if I didn't start planning an event like this early, it would be delayed even further and would be a rushed, insufferable exercise.
So I planned ahead, releasing information about this event in the beginning of February, a month and a half before I had planned to go through with something like this. This way, I knew if I started thinking about the event early and deciding on what classics I'd watch, I'd be able to purchase them from Amazon/add them to my Netflix ahead of time, so when the event *quickly* rolled around, I'd be more than prepared and not scrambling last minute. I purchased many, many films, bought the cheapest, most bare-bones DVD copies of films to save money, and don't remembering shelling out more than $10 on one DVD. I bought the old collector's edition of Taxi Driver, along with the first DVD edition of The Godfather. Getting a DVD overloaded with features wasn't the point. I simply wanted to see the film, and, as long as the way I was viewing it was legal, I didn't care how I'd view it.
I watched three films by the master Scorsese, dove in and spoke my mind on "the greatest film of all time," viewed a religious epic, saw one of the trendiest books on film, saw the number one film on IMDB's "Top 250" list, watched a classic comedy from one of the greatest comedy teams of the 1930's (and possibly all time), visited the first part of a trilogy I never thought I'd even look at, and much more. I'd say this is probably the movie watching event I'm most proud of, next to "The Summer Diaries." Not only did I treat myself to a number of winners, I can now say answer "yes" to more inevitable "have you seen...?" questions people ask me, and I didn't encounter one film I hated with a passion. I did write a less than stellar review of The Hunger Games, but in no way despised the film or felt it was a waste of time.
"Cinema's Finest" was an eventful excursion, but the real question is "what will I think of next?" I hope to do a part two to "The Summer Diaries" over the summer (I will release more information on it sometime in May), and have released information about my "Marx Brothers" movie watching event that will take place in May or June. I have my plate half-eaten now, but I got a long way before I'm fully scraping it clean.
Thanks to all those who followed me as I encountered numerous winners, no losers, and a number of unforgettable pieces. It has been my privilege.
