Views on the current situation with Iran

So how do you guys feel about Iran's standing in today's world?


Me, while I try not to think about it, I do worry that conflict with them will prove to be inevitable. I keep hearing things about how much the Iranian government hates Israel and the West, and how they continue to pursue with their "nuclear program" despite protests and sanctions from other nations.

Plus there's their president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has been cited for saying that the Holocaust never happened and that homosexuality "does not exist" in his country (because homosexuality, along with atheism, are illegal in Iran). My mom keeps telling me that he is just another boogeyman built up to scare us and that he will not do anything. While she may be right, I cannot but recite that the same was said about Adolf Hitler before World War II.

So as you can tell, I really hope the US won't ever have to go to war with Iran, but I do fear that they will take the fight to us. In fact, that is one of my predictions for the near future (that Iran will declare war on the US). I really do hope that I am wrong, but only time will tell.

So what your guys' thoughts?

1. We're not the ones who should be going into a conflict with Iran. Israel alone can easily defeat Iran. Saudi Arabia and all the other tremendously wealthy Arab countries have already hired mercenary (Xe Services) armies to attack Iran. Our CIA has supported an armed dissident group and has helped them to infiltrate the highest level of Iranian government.

2. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad actually has very little power. There's a power struggle between the mullahs, or clerics (i.e. the ayatollah), and the powerful IRGC, an army within an army, kind of like Hitler's SS. Ahmadinejad's election may have been rigged, in 2009 there were massive student protests that were brutally crushed. 3. Armed intervention is almost impossible. Russia, China and India are all allied with Iran. Right now, the best thing to do is hope that the military seizes power, or better, that there is a massive uprising.

4. Homosexuality does exist in Iran. This is a great film exploring that concept, although I haven't seen it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumstance_%282011_film%29 Iran is considered a theocracy, the most conservatively religious country in the world. How come it has a government funded stem cell research program and not us?

6. Iran has done a lot of bad things, but then again the media never tells you about the bad things America has done to Iran, like toppling its democratically elected government and replacing it with a puppet dictatorship.

7. Iran is no way like Nazi Germany. A good portion of the country is opposed to the government, and the military exerts alot of political influence. I'll bet that the CIA will install some military goon as dictator or aid the general populace in their uprising.

8. FYI Iran= Persia. A country with a pretty powerful history. This guy's a total bad ass and the only person we should be afraid of. He's not some religious nut job like the Ayatollah or some puppet like M.A. Because he's actually a smart, sensible person who understands the limits of Iran's military (allah is not going to grant them victory) he's the only one who poses a real threat to America.

Thank you for making all those points and basically point out that we have nothing to fear with Iran. I thought Iran was most likely an empty threat, but sometimes media hoopla gets to you.

I just hope you were not talking down to me and assuming that I am ignorant, Eduljee. After all, we want to respect each other no matter what.
