Yes, I have decided to make a return to the world of short films (not that I ever left). This summer I'll hopefully be working on a project I have been tossing around for a long, long time. Probably since 2010. Consistent readers of my many reviews will take note that I mention cinematography, atmosphere, and visuals when I analyze films. I have been a lover of landscapes, scenery, and photography for a long time, and in my second short film One Shot Kill, I tried utilizing some scenery by using obsucre locations nearby and very thick grassy plains.
Now, I want to compile various shots of grass, woodsy scenery, skies, roads, night, day, overcast, storms, and just whatever interesting shots I can find. Consider my motivation Terrence Malick's captivating The Tree of Life. That and the 1929 short film H20 by Ralph Steiner. Hopefully this summer I will get a big storm. It seems every summer, around the week of my birthday, Illinois is hit with a gigantic storm that knocks our power out for some-odd hours. I'd like to get footage of a big storm, and hopefully, one that doesn't knock my power out.
I will try and start shooting this summer. Or, if I find decent locations or nice shots ahead of time, I'll start then. To be honest, I have no idea how long this will be, if there will be any depth or substance, or if there will be any story or central mood/tone. There will definitely be no shots of myself, no scripting, and no shots of other people. I just want shots. Shots of anything and everything. What I love about cinematography is that it's so unpredictable, authentic, and rich. You can't script it or even predict what you will find. It just comes to you. At this point, I don't even have a name for the project. I have been calling it "Project C," for cinematography.
Editing won't be too difficult, it will just be the processing that will be time-consuming. Not to mention, I want to listen to some stock music (no commercial) so I can try and have something other than senseless wind in the background.
I will inform everyone of forthcoming news at this link (http://stevethemovieman.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=film&thread=3012) and will be sure to try and release it in July or August. Your support is appreciated, and I hope nobody will be disappointed.
Your mod,
Steve Pulaski.
