2001: Best Picture: A Beatiful Mind What should of won: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring! I say, no on both. is clearly and without question the finest film of 2001 and perhaps the best film of the decade. Though Lord of the Rings easily trumps that stupid piece of garbage, A Beautiful Mind.

But I cant judge because I havent seen LOTR, but I cant see it being better than A Beautiful Mind. Though ABM did seem overpraised, I dont think LOTR is my thing.

I know this is "Worst Oscar Winners", but Im still glad Avatard didnt win Best Picture. The movie made an unfair amount of money and basically wooed audiences because of the CGI which was all it had. The storyline was lackluster and Im so glad that The Hurt Locker won.

If anything should have won Best Picture for this year's Oscars, it should have been either Up or Inglorious Basterds. It pisses me off that people only like HL because it beat out Avatar.

Avatar is far more overrated than The Hurt Locker. Inglorious Bastards looks AWFUL. I wouldnt see that dumb shit if it came on Netflix: Watch Instant. That was overpraised and had the most overrated director too, Quentin Tarantino. He made two good movies Reservoir Dogs and Death Proof, thats it. IB doesnt deserve the publicity it gets.

Yes, all three of those movies are overrated, with Hurt Locker being overpraised despite being so boring. Mark my words, Up should have won for Best Picture, and I hope to God that Toy Story 3 will win next year.

Inglorious Basterds is one of the best films of the decade, along with Up. Both of those deserved to be Best Picture more than that piece of shit Avatar and Hurt Locker. Hurt Locker was good, but Generation Kill is such a better depiction of the Iraq War. And QT isn't the most overrated director, not even close. Kevin Smith is. No question.

Both movies are phenomenal, just Inception is a little bit better. And Up totally should've won last year. Up and Inglorious Basterds.

Well, I'll find out tomorrow if Inception is really worth all of the praise. Though, I can hardly imagine it being better than Toy Story 3, but I still think it will be really good.

Hurt Locker was good, but Generation Kill is such a better depiction of the Iraq War. And QT isn't the most overrated director, not even close. Kevin Smith is. No question. Oh, I don't know... Seems to me there are a couple other directors more praised than Smith. For example, Michael Bay does have a following. Then there's that guy who did The English Patient. David Lynch is hugely overrated. All his films (and TV) are just weird people doing weird things, and then violence erupts. He's the hack version of The Coen brothers (though Lost Highway was sometimes fun). Who do the same thing, only they do it well and don't pretend to be Hitchcock or Brian De Palma. People treat Lucio Fulci, though some of his films are sometimes entertaining, like he was a God. And then... George Lucas. C'mon. If putting a filmmaker on a shrine, like the Clerks-ites do with Smith, is a crime than Lucas deserves disdain on the same train. Oh, and The Farrelly Brothers. I have nothing but contempt for them and their garbage. Shitting on a toilet for 5 minutes and putting sperm in your hair is not compelling or artful- it's disgusting and retarded. And we have them to blame for Scary Movie, which we have to blame for those Epic-Movie guys. And who's to say we can't blame them for Uwe Boll too? He was clearly thinking of them (among the people / trends I said they created) when he did Postal. (Though to be honest, I admit half of him can be blamed on the Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Mario Bros. movies - two of which I rented in the 90's, one of which I emphatically enjoyed) Avatar is far more overrated than The Hurt Locker. I agree with Dirk that QT is not that overrated. He can be at times. Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, Vol. 1 are excellent examples of this. They are overrated because they're only for a select group of people. And I was bored. Steve - see Jackie Brown. I'm not kidding!! It's a lot more personal, emotional, and powerful than Pulp Fiction (which I hope you've seen) in terms of characterization. It's about fewer people too, so you really get close to Jackie, Max, and Ordell. The stuff with Robert De Niro and Briget Fonda alone at Ordell's house gets a little stupid and pointless and Michael Keaten is either miscast or not very well used (he's good in the interrogation scene toward the end, though). But the rest of the movie is amazing. Especially the scenes at the mall. First-class drama. And this guy is mostly action-comedy. Trust me, you'll be impressed. The earth moved for me on this one. I cried. Pam Grier's performance is that good.
