I am very excited to see this movie next weekend! ;D It is a film about the founding of Facebook, and it is directed by David Fincher. I know some of you might think Fincher is overrated, but you'll have to admit that this trailer for The Social Network is actually quite well-crafted. See for yourself: So who else is excited for this movie?

Well, he's definitely a little overrated. Most big directors are.

Very much excited to see this. A Facebook movie is very uninteresting to me, but Fincher (whom I love) seems to be doing cool stuff with it.

I'm looking forward to this. Ill be watching it next Saturday. Fincher directed Fight Club, which I still have yet to see, but The Social Network and Fight Club are two TOTALLY different films. I also just feel like pointing out that trailer is well done and quite impressive how dark and very much of a standout it is.

Yet I will be watching Fincher's Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button sometime soon since I checked them out from the library. Then hopefully I can get Fight Club off of Netflix before seeing The Social Network.

Zodiac's on my list - closer to the last position than the top though.

Yet I will be watching Fincher's Zodiac Don't say I didn't warn you- it's a snooze and 3 quarters! I'm actually starting to see eye to eye with you on the whole Zodiac thing. I remember the first time I watched it i was thinking "this has go to be wrapping up soon" and I checked the time and I was only halfway through! It does outstay its welcome without giving a satisfying conclusion (you can't really blame the ending on the movie, that's how it happened in real life). I still like it and still think Fincher did a great job directing, it's just too big of a story.

I didn't think the movie was trying to be realistic, actually. The murder scenes certainly weren't. Maitland McDonaugh once said (and she would know) that Fincher took inspiration from giallo films. She wrote one of the most definitive books on Dario Argento. Well, being a huge fan of Argento, I can tell you that style of film needs more than a dull mood to work. Giallos are often famous for shocking violence. Fincher stepped back from showing anything happening, instead he indulges on all the lame personality quirks of the not very interesting characters. I actually wanted a semi-intelligent film to make up for what the Saw type films lack. Now this film has actually confirmed that those films did something right- they didn't shy away from the violence. I resent that a film about a killer made by the director of something as good as Se7en would do that. Especially since Se7en already held back so much (but, actually was smart enough to keep the murder scenes completely offscreen) that there's no way Fincher could pull a Wes Craven and say "I just couldn't go there again."
But, oh- he wants us to be scared, so he sets up an ultra-lazy beginning, abusing an excellent moody song (the amazing "Hurdy Gurdy Man"), and shows things happening from so many feet away- you don't feel anything. This movie is so lax on intensity, yet it's about a subject that is very stirring... it's insulting to people like me who know that if you're going to show the murder scenes at all, you have to make us feel the horror of it somehow. The way he handled this was as cheap as the Saw movies. All I can say for the film was that it was expensive (and damn- I don't give a crap about that anymore, I've seen enough expensive failures) and that the acting was good. Big whoop. Everyone totes the great, hard-edged, realistic anti-hero type acting style of today's movies. But what ever happened to making things interesting? Visually, the movie is boring. The ending, as you mentioned, was unnecessary. This movie to Fincher is like Summer of Sam was to Spike Lee. At best- a complete watering down of what used to make them important or interesting directors. Forced reality? You get as much feeling from this movie as you would a documentary on A&E. And I don't watch that channel anymore (too predictable).

So far the movie's been getting critically acclaimed. Even more hyped to see it now that I know it turned out well. The Social Network could dethrone the mighty Inception as the best movie of the year.

I havent even seen Inception, but plan to watch it before the year closes, and am still not that excited. Why not? I never really liked Leo all that much. Inception seems like another movie people put on their favorites because of action and explosions rather than actual plot line. It pisses me off when people put movies from like 2009 or 2010 on their favorite movie list. Especially for the wrong reason. People probably just like Inception for it's intense action scenes and probably dont know or care about the actual story. I had a kid today call the 2004 Dawn of the Dead the best movie ever and the original one a piece of shit. You could just imagine how pissed I was.
