Morgan Spurlock goes on a thirty day McDonald binge in Super Size Me.
Rating: ★★★½
Super Size Me has been a movie I've went back to for years and years after it's release. I set it as one of my favorite documentary films of all time. It's well placed and informative style makes it a film I consistently revisit. It's like a film you can't just appreciate once. Watching it more and more it's almost like the film has more to offer with every viewing. How many films could you say that about?
This film is the one that took Morgan Spurlock's career to new heights. He wrote books, he got so much recognition for this daring act, he got his own show on FX called 30 Days, and he made another very less successful film called Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? It all started with a 30 day binge on nothing but McDonalds food. I've ate McDonalds for a week straight. Where the hell are my deals with FX and book companies?
Morgan Spurlock goes on something that is quite possibly done by various obese Americans; a 30 day McDonalds binge. Nothing but food sold by McDonalds can go past Spurlock's lips for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Thirty days, whats the risk? Nothing really, just obesity, heart attack, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, nausea, heart burns, headaches, stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and a sick liver. Would you like to super size that, sir?
As far as fast food goes, I eat it probably five to ten times a month. I'm a healthy 127 pounds (remember, I'm 14), and have been eating like this for approximately three years. I manage to have at least ten regular meals with my family composed of meat. a side dish, a salad, and milk/soda. My diet is the least of my concerns. I eat what I want, I frequently exercise, and I'm a-okay.
My views on fast food are as followed; it's the lower quality food that packs less of what I should, but more flavor. McNuggets I don't think are even real meat. I eat them anyway. I've yet to experience any sickness from consuming them. They can't be that healthy for you, but not that harmful. Paranoia and fear are the only two things that come to our minds when they hear "fast food". They think, like everything, it's "too good to be true". Fast food is probably not one hundred percent healthy, but not one hundred percent harmful.
Super Size Me is a fantastic documentary with a damn good experiment. One of my first reviews was a film called Google Me about a man who "googled" his name and went to meet almost everyone with the same name as him. It was a very interesting thing to do, just like what Spurlock did in this movie. Of course Spurlock's journey was way more risky and involved a lot more tiresome work. But what is worse - carpal tunnel or a heart attack?
Directed by and Starring: Morgan Spurlock.
