Hello everybody, this is my first post on here so I decided to start it with a review of a movie I seen last week. True Grit is a western film by the Coen Brothers(Fargo, Big Lebowski) and they captured a rich film with a stellar cast. The movie stars Hailee Steinfeld as Matty Ross, Matt Damon as LeBoeuf, a texas ranger and The Duke Dude, Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn.
This movie is one of the best movies I've seen from 2010, the Coens usually hit a home run with the movies they make. But after a few failed attempts with No country forgood endingsOld Men and A serious man, they made a great film here. Though the movie starts off slow and the actors are sometimes incoherent due to their western accents but thats the way they talked back then, its staying true to the characters. Other than those two problems this movie is awesome.
The biggest surprise is that Bridges and Damon aren't the most impressive in the film but instead the protagonist, Hailee Steinfeld pulls off an amazing performance. If you watch the scene where she is haggling the man over selling horses she is so fluent and very impressive and she was completely in character.
Some people compare John Wayne's Cogburn with Bridges' Cogburn and the only thing I have to say is. When you watch the 1969 True Grit and see John Wayne play Cogburn, you see John Wayne. But if you watch this new True Grit, you think Jeff Bridges' Cogburn you think that its the actual Cogburn(I am not saying that cause I am a huge fan of Jeff Bridges).
I am probably leaving out alot of things but I don't want to spoil anything about the movie. Its something you have to see plus this is my first review and its almost 2 in the morning. In the end I give this movie 4.5 out of 5. Go see it and tell me your opinions.
