MacGruber's band of rejects.
Rating: ★½
Whatever angle you look at it, Will Forte looks a hell of a lot like Owen Wilson. Both are good in some rolls, but some rolls they can't act in. In this one, he is careening on the edge of crappy. This movie is borderline failure, and brings up the question, should SNL stop making films? I made a blog on the issue and did a whole episode of Front Row Steve on whether or not SNL should continue their lines of films based on sketches from the everlasting TV series. This movie was nothing more I could call than an average, soon-to-be-forgotten film.
MacGruber is a parody/one big joke on MacGwyer. The plot is focussed around MacGruber (Will Forte) who needs to find a crime boss named Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer). After killing his team on accident, MacGruber is forced to find another team. He finds Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) and Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig). Their clueless, but they at least somewhat know what they are doing. They are now sent to find Cunth and stop his plan, whatever it may be.
I'm sorry, I just don't feel like elaborating a plot thats been done more times than I can count. This story is cliche and just boring all around. Theres nothing creative or unique here, same old thing. MacGruber is just a knock off, soon to be forgotten film that is nothing more special than if a High School kid with half a year of Film School would make. The only difference is that might have some effort put into. I just cant find much more to say about this film, it's not that great or well made. Just forget it like everyone else will in ten years, or it could be an SNL film that will have annoying lines quoted forever and maybe achieve a cult status within the next years. Director Jorma Taccone better stick with The Lonely Island and not do crappy films if he wants a successful career.
Starring: Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, and Ryan Phillippe. Directed by: Jorma Taccone.
