It appears to be something of a favorite of other gay men. No clue as to why. It's colorful and operatic. But I love it because I find it really methodical and quieter than most Disney animated films. Very atmospheric. Less cutesy. More ethereal. Or perhaps: spiritual. Which is funny, since I'm not the slightest bit religious. The magic word for enjoying something spiritual if you're not by chance religious is: "Celestial." No idea what that means, but I think it has something to do with the romanticization of cosmic forces - like the planets and stars and things like that. Thankfully, this movie's short on things like knights in full riding getup and much more introverted and personal. Which makes everything more interesting in my book. I think everyone who appreciates animated films should check this out if you haven't seen it or don't remember it. If for no other reason, than the scene where the fairies take Aurora back to the castle and she's spirited-away by something you know is evil. That scene always gave me the chills as a kid.

This knocked me over with a feather when I finally decided to listen to the audio commentary for the 2003 Special Edition DVD (I own) back in April this year... There was a deleted song from the movie that Disney actually had a full demo recording of.
