Ben Affleck to direct next “Batman” film; what this means for DC Universe While speculation of a new Batman movie directed by current Batman actor Ben Affleck has been circulating for sometime, on April 12, 2016, it was officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Chief Kevin Tsujihara. The news comes as “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is still in theaters, despite debatably underperforming at the box office, taking in only $9 million this weekend at only a month in release to a domestic total of $311 million. In normal circumstances, that figure would be great news for a studio, but in terms of kicking off a brand new cinematic universe for the stalling DC Comics to compete with the corporate empire of Marvel, it’s fair to hold the film in a fairly modest light.
