Hollywood never learns: Why “The Legend of Tarzan” will fail Almost every year, sometimes multiple times in the same year, Hollywood and the film industry experiences a catastrophic financial loss from a film the studio expected to be a big hit or at least a sizable winner. Some of these films, whether they’re “John Carter,” “The Lone Ranger,” or “Tomorrowland,” become “industry staples” of sorts, or films that are used as the poster-child for how and why they were such immense financial failures, which subsequently gets filed into an unwritten book of Hollywood of sorts. By that I mean the barrage of thinkpieces, blogs, and commentary that stem from one film’s immense failure.
