One of the best comedies I've ever seen. Sometimes funny, but ALWAYS entertaining. Smart, well-written, great performances.

Dude, Roger Ebert is an EXCELLENT Critic. So is Richard Roeper. They are excellent critics. I will agree critics aren't the nicest with Comedy and Horror, but Roger Ebert gave Jennifer's Body 3 stars! And he gave Orphan 3 and a half. How often do you see a horror movie nowadays surpass a 2 star rating? I dont. Some Critics like Ebert and RR are very good, and ya gotta respect their opinion.

But it's a fact, most of the time: really bad movies get reviews befitting their status - as bad movies. That doesn't mean all bad movies get reviews panning them. Dan in Real Life is a good example of a movie that got good reviews and it was below average.

Dan in Real Life is a very underrated movie. I wish it got more reception. Roger Ebert actually reviews movies of what he thinks of them. He gave Orphan 3 1/2 Stars! How often do you see a Critic give a Horror Movie more than 2 stars?

Dan in Real Life is a very underrated movie. I wish it got more reception. Well, I really disagree with you there. It was a strained romantic comedy with bad romantic over-the-top situations and a really insulting "father is insanely strict with daughters and is completely clueless because Mom is dead" thrown in to make things silly. A movie like that is supposed to make you feel for the father's situation. But, put yourself in the position of the daughters. As a father, Dan is a failure. To be kind. I'm talking about what obviously got the most attention- him sticking his nose into his daughter's dating / lovelife. He was way too possessive (even though of course he's not allowed to date his daughter) and oppressive. A movie like this is supposed to make you agree with his intentions. But his intentions are fucked up. He didn't just make a few honest mistakes - he was a bad father who didn't even want his daughter to see boys in lowkey / innocent social hangouts. And he didn't care when he crossed the line. Well... I did care. I can't support a movie that makes light of a father being this tight in his daughter's life. She needs a supportive father, not a suffocating father. She needs to develop into a mature and healthy individual. She has the right to see boys without consulting her father about it. He was impossible to sympathize with. At best, what it was was a 4th rate version of Meet the Parents (which was much better). A ton of family in one house with "comic" misunderstandings that aren't funny or entertaining. Unlike Meet the Parents, which was utterly hilarious. Roger Ebert actually reviews movies of what he thinks of them. He gave Orphan 3 1/2 Stars! How often do you see a Critic give a Horror Movie more than 2 stars? Well, even though I usually think Nick Schager is royally full of shit- I do trust him when he gives a horror movie a low rating, as he did with Orphan. www.slantmagazine.com/film/film_review.asp?id=4411But I knew from the trailers that it was going to be pure cinematic fecal matter anyway.

Orphan was excellent. Dont judge a movie by trailer/poster.
