Got Curb Your Enthusiasm season eight in the mail yesterday and watched two of the three episodes I still need to see; "Car Periscope" and "Mister Softee." I still don't hesitate to label the show "a work of Television brilliance" and currently the funniest program on. Watching the episodes I missed brought an indelible smile to my face, reminding me why I rushed through seven seasons in a mere two months last summer. Gonna be tragic when I watch the final episode, since there is no word on a season nine. If there isn't, hell will be unleashed. Although it would be rather typical considering my luck. Cue Luciano Michelini's "Frolic" right now (the show's theme which perfectly represents irony).

Some of you will remember last summer, I watched every episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm; a show I still dub a work of Television brilliance. To keep consistent with my "try a new show every summer" plan, I'm going to try and get into King of the Hill, a show which was always my "last resort." Now that I have watched three episodes of the first season, I can see the humor is deadpan and along the lines of Mike Judge's previous show, Beavis and Butthead. Love the characters, love the humor, and love the dry wit.
Sucks to note that only six seasons of the show were released. They planned a seventh one, but it got canned due to low sales. Considering all the garbage that lasts a season on Television that gets a DVD release (Charlie's Angels? MTV's Good Vibes?), I don't see why King of the Hill can't get its remaining seven seasons out.

Watched the entire series Are You Being Served? (1973-1985) and was a little disappointed by how formulaic it was and how every new cast member they brought on was forced into the same role as the last one who left. They literally turned 3 replacements for Mr. Grainger into new Mr. Graingers. The same with Mr. Grace's brother. And Mr. Spooner turned into the new Mr. Lucas, which I'm especially bothered by because I really do not like the way Mr. Lucas treated Mrs. Slocombe.
Anyway, the cast (most of them) reunited for a new series in the 90's called Grace & Favour and... without any expectations, I can say this one hasn't disappointed me in the slightest. Except for Mr. Humphries, who doesn't get anymore gay jokes (and by that, I mean he made most of them himself) because they're pushing a love affair on him with new character, Mavis, the farmer's daughter (and is practically the star of this new show, she has so much life and has to tell everyone else what to do). Most of the new characters this time around aren't replacements for anyone on the old show at all, there are actually some new jokes, and there's no Mr. Spooner / Mr. Lucas archetype anywhere in sight. Well, actually, I suppose Miss Lovelock is a replacement for all the old bimbo secretaries and nurses who worked for Mr. Grace on the old show but, unlike those women, Lovelock has a brain, wit, charm, and she's honestly tough. And, I'm no expert of course but, still she seems to have a lot of sex appeal. That's class. Miss Brahms has also gotten a lot smarter. Since the male to female ratio of actors is more even here than it was on the last show, the women step up and have more lines and screentime and she really takes that and turns her character into the one who gets the most jokes.

Been watching The IT Crowd like a mad fiend. Granted each season is only six episodes (it's a British show) and there are only four seasons, but hey, I'm proud I found a new show I like. I lucked out and caught the entire first season on Youtube, and because every episode can fit on one disc, I have been getting the remaining three from Netflix. I hate that "Season 1, Disc 1" or "Season 1, Disc 2" business. That's why I love Netflix: Watch Instant.
Anyway, I'm blew through season two yesterday in just about two and a half hours, and am halfway done with season three. Going to try and watch it so I can send it back today and start receiving movies again. Season four comes tomorrow and I'll try and do the same.
