First thing tomorrow, after my 7am bike ride, I'll listen to this. 7AM bike ride? Good for you. If I wake up at 7 I'm immediately going back to sleep. I never wanted to make it sound like I'm better than anyone. I just try and do that two or three times a month. It's soothing as all hell. Anyway, as far as the song goes, I've never listened to too much LCD Soundsystem. But from what I hear from that song, I think they appeal to a certain audience. I'm not of that audience at all, but I thought going in blindly to that song was actually not a bad move. I really like the beat, I'm not sure what the sole purpose was of the lyrics, but the beat kept me hooked for all eight minutes. I rarely listen to long tracks to begin with from someone I don't really know about. The only eight minute song I listen to on a regular basis is Don McLean's American Pie. But this song makes me want to look into more of LCD Soundsystem. It seems like a mysterious, yet enjoyable sound of music. Four out of five stars. So... now do I pick one?

Steve's song: 3/5 stars
A little too loud and abrasive. Also the lyrics were just stupid. The instrumental was pretty standard stuff but it worked well. The woman singing towards the end didn't jive well with the song. Her voice sounded very electronic and fake.

Band: Depeche Mode Song: Never Let Me Down Again Album: Music for the Masses
Incredible instrumentals, good variety, great vocals, and solid lyrics. Depeche Mode are masters of these types of dark, hypnotic, sinister tones.

I don't even need to listen to the song. I've heard it before, and it's on my iPod. This song is excellent. I love the lyrics. I especially love the instrumental as well. Also, I remember San Andreas, Radio X if I'm not mistaking, had my favorite Depeche Mode song Personal Jesus. This song is excellent. Just excellent. Also, amen to your second sentence in the post above. Rating: 4.5/5.
My song. Currently my favorite as well:
Song: Dirt Road Anthem Artist: Jason Aldean Album: My Kinda Party

Steve's song: 2/5
Not intolerable but very generic and very poorly put together. The lyrics were laughably terrible. Again, tough guy attitude never meshes with country music. At least Hank III was doing something a little different with his song you posted that I can respect in some ways. This was just, "Hey, I made a country song that sounds like all other country songs."
The arrangement also was weird. Maybe that's where he was trying to step out a bit but it ended up making the song much worse. You have the chorus which is slow and the between bit which is fast. Both are gimmicks. There's no real "normal" bits in the song. The Pixies would do a similar type of dynamic but they were set up as a weird, alternative band with weird lyrics. It made sense that their arrangements would be, well, weird.
That said, the song wasn't a 1 star. To me, a 1 star is something that is aggressively unpleasant to listen to. This was just kinda bad. I feel bad talking shit because you were so kind to my song. Maybe try no country next week? I don't want to tell you how to do things but if you're unsatisfied with my reaction try a genre I consistently like.
Also, I know we're not judging the music videos but maaaaaaaan that was a lame music video. His getup and the posing was just the icing on the cake of generic country rock.
If you like Personal Jesus check out the rest of Violator .

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite times of the week, next to Giant Bombcast and Thursday Night Throwdown.

Song: Too Afraid To Love Band: The Black Keys Album: Brothers (2010)
Picking a song off of Brothers, possibly my favorite album of the last few years, was like picking your favorite child. All have something to offer. Too Afraid To Love is my current addiction off the album so I chose that one. This is one song I need to sing along to. I feel compelled to get up and dance. The piano mixed with Dan's vocals makes this song incredible.
Are we allowed to use more than one song per band in later weeks? I have a few bands lined up but I may want to revisit a few. I have so many songs I'd really love to do this twice a week. I'd also love to get more people in the mix. Surely Hawk and No Personality have interest in this?

Hey guys, great discussion last week. I'm glad so many people pitched in. Really fun stuff.
Song: Broken Face Album: Surfer Rosa Band: Pixies
Audio quality on this version is shit. I would write some sort of thing but why bother.

I missed last week. Really sorry about that. I'll get to your two songs tonight. It's only fair.

The Black Eyed Peas by Too Afraid to Love You. Rating: 3.5/5
Liked the song, but my like turned into a "fine" after the two minute mark. It seemed to sort of drag on a little. It's almost as if it was intended to be a short, but was extended. Still, by no means horrible. Not being a Black Eyed Peas fan, (I despise My Humps) I found it to be original and quite favorable. You're right, the mix of Dan's vocals with the piano just works. Definitely a favorable track.
Broken Face by The Pixies. Rating: 2.5/5.
Not crazy about this one. It's a little rambunctious, and the beat is louder than the vocals in parts making for a very wild and crazy track. I like a few of The Pixies songs, but this isn't one of their highpoints. Maybe it's because the audio isn't great, or just because the song in general is repetitive, but for whatever reason, I didn't find too much special on this one.
My song for the week:
Song: Make a Toast Artist: Dolla. Album: A Dolla and a Dream (unreleased).
Dolla is one of my favorite rappers. Hands down. He has a passion and a sound to him, mixed with a lyrical genius. I've never heard a song I didn't like by him, and the fact Georgia Nights was released two days before his death and it rained the day before, day of, and day after his death in Atlanta (you'll understand if you heard the song) is scary. He got shot in 2009, and it was a damn shame. Who the Fuck is That? his biggest, but yet very subtle, hit is my favorite song to date by him, and that's another must listen to. I picked this over that because I think, lyric-wise, this beats it. But the sound in WtFiT? is excellent.

I'm seriously calling into question everything about you. The difference: The Black Keys are an actual band. Here are photos if you don't believe me: I would post a picture of the Black Eyed Peas but I shudder at the thought of those imbeciles sharing space with Dan and Pat. " Broken Face by The Pixies. Rambunctious is a good word for the Pixies. They're basically a punk rock band with a surf rock twist. That's why the song is very fast and repetitive. The loud quiet loud dynamic I have mentioned various times is their staple. I think the instrumentals were meant to overpower the vocals. Frank is singing very quickly and the song is very short. The bits with no guitar stick out very much like when Frank says "My mother speaks no English." They're a quirky group for sure but I love 'em. What Pixies songs do you like Steve? Don't worry, I'll get to your song shorty.

I'll go real time with my review of this one.
Intro: Cliche as all heck. If I had a nickel for every rap song I've heard starting with overdubbed dialogue and trumpets I'd be making money in a very weird way.
Move onto the chorus: I feel I've heard this song before.
Lyrics: More deja vu. Lyrics are standard rhyming stretches, weird references (Chia pets, fucking really?), mixed with sad attempts at social commentary. The mixing is like all rap songs nowadays: obscure the lyrics until the end of the verse. His voice is a lot like Lil Wayne. Autotuned with slight wheeze.
Passion and lyrical genius? No. This is a guy who wants to be rich and famous. He wants to live the life portrayed in the music videos. You can tell because the song is so cliche and standard. He needs to go by the book or he might not be famous! Oh no!
I was planning for some Talking Heads next week, but I feel there are more important things to show clearly.

I think the reason I confused them was because (1) it was late and (2) I just heard some will.i.am song on the TV. That's the only explanation. That, or I'm just an idiot. Honestly, I like this thread, but we need NP or someone else to come in. This between you and me is getting not only repetitive, but just tiresome because it's always the same. You pick a song, I review it between mediocre - good, I pick a song, you trash the hell out of it, etc. It's not that I want you to lie, hell no, but I feel like I can't win here. I try to pick a song from another genre, and I still get bashed.
