I'm honestly surprised no Daft Punk gets played at my school during the dances. Because of such an overblown, mainstream market, DP seems to get lost in the shuffle. I enjoy a lot of their music, but don't love them by any means. "Veridis Quo" is an example of one I liked, but I'll probably never listen to again. It's one of those songs you like to hear once in a while, but not much over and over again. I did enjoy it, though, and found it to be relaxing more than a song to just dance to. Four stars.
My song for the week;
Song: "Hit Somebody: The Hockey Song" Artist: Warren Zevon Album: My Ride's Here
This song is just absolutely riveting. This will also be turned into a two part film by Kevin Smith come next year. Really glad this song will have a film companion. This is the kind of thing that, while it's silly and has a "tongue-in-cheek" personality, it still brings a tear to your eye.

I thought the lyrics were hilarious, very sardonic and clever, but the instrumental was a little too country for my tastes. Still, good stuff.
4/5

I'll need a few days but I aim to get back into the saddle in this project. I'll do a few songs at a time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRcPA7FzebwSong: Starman Artist: David Bowie Album: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from MarsPicking a David Bowie song has so far been the hardest thing I have ever had to do. The owned the 70's in music. No one could touch him. He had the songs. He had the style. He had the originality, experimentation, performances, personality, and talent to top everything else out there. Ziggy Stardust, Station to Station, The Berlin Trilogy, and everything in between. Starman was the song that made me the David Bowie fan I am today. It turned Bowie from "The guy that wrote Space Oddity and wore funny clothes" to "The greatest single performer in the history of music." I may need time with this but; first impression? I did not care for it. I'd give it about a 2.5/5... BUT... I did like one part. You hear it here = 1:24-1:40 & 3:09-the end. I guess I'm a sucker for rock that seems less upbeat and I'm being incredibly ignorant in assuming this is in any way upbeat- it just sounds too peppy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgcY6qlzdf8Song: Veridis Quo Artist: Daft Punk Album: DiscoveryMaybe it dates back to our animal roots, but Daft Punk never ceases to make me move and dance. Slap whatever label you want to on it, techno, house, trance, electronic, because the truth is that Daft Punk stands alone. The two French robots started something that can imitated, but never duplicated. Now this is a little more up my alley. It was nice, evoking a very smooth ride. But after it started, it really didn't go anywhere. A little shake to go along with the milk but no oomph. Too slow. Which obviously seems intentional. But it did nothing for me. It would be a nice song to hear toward the end of your journey but that's also often the least interesting part. I give it a 3/5. www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-CYJf2o7ZQSong: "Hit Somebody: The Hockey Song" Artist: Warren Zevon Album: My Ride's HereThis song is just absolutely riveting. This is the kind of thing that, while it's silly and has a "tongue-in-cheek" personality, it still brings a tear to your eye. Unlike HD, I was thinking something closer to... Randy Newman. Downhome radio blue-collar folk music. Anyway, I'm clearly not following the storyline. All I can notice is that this can't be Zevon's best singing ability. He's really wobbly. I doubt it helps that I hate sports as well. 2/5.

2nd impression: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRcPA7FzebwSong: Starman Artist: David Bowie Album: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from MarsPicking a David Bowie song has so far been the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I'm still better with songs in my comfort zone - for which this is way out there - but, quality wise, this is better after a week or two having already heard it. I'm bumping it up to 3.5/5. I also still am not latching onto its' significance.

I also still am not latching onto its' significance. It's significance in Bowie's career is inarguable. It was his biggest single since Space Oddity. Like I said before, the significance for me comes in the formal introduction of Bowie as an artist.

I meant in either the story it's trying to tell, mood it's evoking, or genre trend it's trying to skew.
